The Union Minister of State for Textiles and Railways Darshana Jardosh, Textile Secretary UP Singh, and their teams were present in Surat recently to inaugurate Weaveknitt 2021, a three-day fabric exhibition, organised by the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SGCCI).
As Surat is a textile hub and accommodates reputed organisations, a team of dignitaries led by UP Singh, along with members of SGCCI, decided to visit few facilities as part of the ministry’s endeavours of understanding the issues in textile and technical textile sectors from the grassroots level.
Advanced Material Division (AMD) of Texport Syndicate India Ltd. (TSIL) is one such state-of-art manufacturing facility, where this unscheduled visit happened.
“Technical textile sector is ever-evolving and growth is happening in double-digits. The Government is hence focusing on consolidating this sector with a well-defined aim and an execution plan,” commented Avinash Misar, Director and CEO (AMD), Texport Syndicate who is also the Director of Indian Technical Textile Association (ITTA).
It’s worth noting here that ITTA – an organisation of over 500 member companies in technical textile sector – is playing a crucial role in laying strategies to boost this sector in active participation with the Textile Ministry, especially after the recently approved production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme that gives attractive incentives to uplift and expand the value chain of technical textile and help Indian companies march towards dominant status in the global trade, which Avinash feels from ITTA’s point of view, is a good proposition.
“ITTA welcomes this farsighted scheme on technical textiles by the Government. It is a good initiative as the industry is getting attractive incentives in PLI scheme if they invest Rs. 100 crore or more and double the turnover by building capacities and improving productivity. The Government is thereby pushing the industry and the onus is on the industry stakeholders now to become more productive and competitive so as to increase their share in the global market,” said Avinash.
