V.Muthukumaran, Global Business Head, Leather Products, TATA International Limited,has been appointed President of Indian Shoe Federation (ISF) for the term 2019 – 2021.
He has taken over from K.R. Vijayan.
V.Muthukumaran previously held the post of Vice President for the term 2017-2019.
Established in 1992, ISF has many leading manufacturers and exporters of footwear and footwear components from India as its members. The ISF is committed to promoting the growth of the Indian Footwear Industry globally through the adoption of modern, transparent and superior industry practices.
Expressing delight over his new responsibility, the new President said “I am extremely excited to take on the new role with Federation and it gives me an opportunity to shape the future of the Indian Footwear Industry. India’s export of footwear in FY19 was a meagre US $ 2.36 billion as compared to China and all efforts should be made to raise our exports to the tune of US $ 10 billion in next few years.”
He added “With a large workforce available in our country, we must be able to improve our manufacturing by ensuring that we have the right components and we continue to improve the productivity.”
As capacities are full in China and Vietnam, the opportunity is available to India. He insisted that a solution must be found for optimising the cost of manufacturing and that the ISF must charter a growth plan to take the industry to the next level.
