The textile industry has been flourishing in Gujarat and hence the state has been able to create jobs in the sector.
According to data by Union Ministry of Textiles, the state managed to create the highest number of jobs in the past 3 years, under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Park (SITP).
Around 26,300 people had the opportunity to find employment in the textile parks set up in the state since FY17.
The state has left behind other manufacturing-intensive states such as Maharashtra (22,910), Andhra Pradesh (19,137) and Tamil Nadu (9,995) in employment generation under SITP.
Surat and Gujarat are hubs for manufacturing where 11 textile parks have been set up with 10 textile manufacturing units each. As part of the scheme, a grant of up to Rs. 40 crore is provided for each textile park.
The Union Government helps support the creation of infrastructure facilities in each park.
“Majority of these parks have weaving units in addition to yarn texturising and value-addition. However, there is one park in Surat which is dedicated to textile processing units,” according to a source close to the development of the parks.
These parks are based on the plug-and-play model where manufacturers are provided with the basic infrastructure and only need to install the machinery in order to begin operations.
To date, over 110 units have begun operations.
“The total project cost is estimated to be Rs. 110 crore per textile park, whereas an estimated investment of Rs. 1,500 crore took place across these textile parks,” said the source.
